What is Divergan®? Divergan is BASF’s standard excipient for the filtration and stabilization of beer and wine.
BASF produces Divergan by popcorn polymerization of PVP. It is insoluble in water, acids, bases, and organic solvents. Depending on the manufacturing conditions, coarse or fine grain products are obtained, which differ in their application properties. Divergan is available as coarse Divergan RS for beer, and as fine Divergan F for beer and wine. |

Mode of Action | |
The majority of turbidity-causing, phenolic compounds are adsorbed by the targeted use of Divergan®. The loaden, insoluble polymer is completely removed by filtration. |
|
Divergan adsorbs the polyphenols responsible for turbidity with high selectivity. |
|
The bonding of turbidity-causing polyphenols to Divergan is mainly due to the formation of hydrogen bonds. |
